The Bundesverband Deutscher Galerien und Kunsthändler e.V. (BVDG, Federal Association of German Galleries and Art Dealers) is an association of gallery owners, editors and art dealers who work with art from the 19th to 21st century. The aim of BVDG is to represent the cultural and economic interests of gallery owners, art dealers and editors to politics, media and the public. It is particularly committed to the positive design of the framework conditions of the art market, within which art education can take place optimally. With around 340 members, BVDG is the largest gallery owners association worldwide.
Buying from members of BVDG offers you the following benefits:
- You benefit from the association member's expertise and many years of professional experience.
- Gallery owners describe their objects clearly, knowledgeably, and precisely with all necessary details (e.g., about the artist, year of creation, technique, or dimensions of an object).
- Members guarantee the authenticity of the objects offered to the best of their knowledge and belief. Reproductions are always marked as such.
Art Cologne Prize and Cologne Fine Art Prize
In cooperation with BVDG, the two Cologne art fairs have been the only fairs to develop relevant and highly regarded art prizes in recent decades: ART COLOGNE in the spring, together with BVDG, awards a prize for art mediators, and Cologne Fine Art & Antiques in the fall awards an artist prize. Past award winners include Thomas Schütte (2006), Georg Baselitz (2009) or Tony Cragg (2012).
